Jim Teece Honored with Citizen of the Year Award

Our Local Hero

Congratulations to our President & CEO, Jim Teece, on being awarded “Citizen of the Year” by the Ashland Chamber of Commerce! The award was given at the Annual Ashland Chamber Dinner at the Historic Ashland Armory on Thursday night.

He was recognized for his countless volunteer hours every year, serving on several local and regional boards, community leadership and innovative community-building ideas such as aLocalHero.com and the development of free Good Citizen Mobile Apps for cities.

Jim prefers to defer any credit to those around him, saying, “I couldn’t do it without the team of amazing humans that I work with everyday.” However, past and present employees may say it best with their unsolicited comments:

“Jim Teece is one snazzy petunia, if I do say so myself. I’m only surprised it didn’t happen sooner. I know lots of business people. Most of them consider community as an afterthought… as something that might make their business more profitable. Jim has always been approaching this from the other direction. He’s been building community, using business as the medium. If America’s politicians and business executives were replaced by a bunch of Jim Teece clones, this would be an amazing, highly functional, more enjoyable country. It would also be a tad weird to see that many Jim Teeces. Disturbing, actually. But amazing nonetheless.” – Dune Thomas

And Rick Carter says, “A well deserved honor, he does so much for his adopted hometown. I keep hoping that some of his awesome will rub off on me, just by association.”

We’ll just let that speak for itself. Jim, you make us all proud to be part of the team.
